Ryan Hunts out First in the Final

Dunedin casino poker tournament classic v Ryan Hunter

Congratulations to Tim, Ryan, Evalyn, Alex and Chris for taking home a piece of the $6000 in our classic final.

When we got down to the final five Evalyn was the first to make a move shoving her small stack with A8, Tim called with pocket J's. Flop was JT4 followed by a 3 then 4.  Tim knocks Evalyn out and we are down to four.

About an hour of play with four players Alex's good run was about to end, Ryan all in with KT against Alex AJ.  The board comes 9QJ29 and Ryan doubles up leaving Alex with 6k.  Very next hand Alex is all in with Q2 and Chris calls with J7.  Chris rivers a straight and sends Alex packing.

Tim shoves all in with 65, Ryan snaps with TT, the board is 6JAJ5  and Tim takes off with third place.

Down to Chris and Ryan with Ryan holding most of the chips.  Chris gets a double up to keep him in the game a bit longer before pushing all in with K4 of diamonds.  Ryan calls with AJ and we get 96J64 but not enough diamonds to keep Chris in the game.

Congratulations to Ryan for taking out the coveted bracelet and the tasty first prize (just under $3k)!

Thursday's Free to Enter Tourney

We had 16 entrants in our Thursday Free-to-Enter Turbo Tournament. Top three were paid. They were Kent S, Damien L and Reihara P, who is fairly new to Dunedin Casino poker scene.

First to get knocked out was Damien. All-in with A-9, Reihara calls with Q-10. With a board of 6-7-J-4-10, Rei took out Damien with a pair of 10s.

After a few bad beats, Rei was fairly low in chips. His big blind put him all-in with 4-8(s) against Kent's Q-3. Board 8-Q-9-J-9 gave Kent the 2-pair and left Rei with second place, though he was still stoked to be in the money on his second ever tournament as Dunedin Casino.

Congratulations Kent.

Weekly Wednesday Tournament

We had a smaller than usual turnout this week, with 15 players showing up. Our top 3 were Alex M, Dan H and Karl R.

For 3rd place, we have Alex go all in on the small blind with AJ to be called by Dan with  A7. On the flop we get J-3-3, putting Alex ahead with 2 pair. Turn is a 7, giving Dan a chance... But nope! 4 on the river sends Dan out on 3rd.

Final hand of the tournament and  Karl goes all in with 66, Alex calls with KJ. The flop delivers Q-8-5 and  turn gives us a T. Alex has quite a few outs still, but unluckily for him, he doesn't hit any, a 2 on the river... Alex comes 2nd and Karl takes home 1st. Well done to Karl!

Mark takes the Turbo

We had 18 players turn up for the Thursday Turbo Tournament. With a free entry fee, we saw a number of new players come and join in the fun.

Top three were paid. The final three were Mark N, Riley C and Damien L.

Damien was the first to get knocked out. All-in with Q-K, Mark has J-10. Board was 6-J-5-4-3 so Marks pair of Js holds and he adds to his already large stack.

With few chips left, Riley goes all-in with A-4. Mark calls with 10-3(h). Only one heart came up on the flop but runner runner flush gave Mark the tournament win.
Congratulations.

$UGAR $HUM $HINES ON IN TONIGHTS CLA$$IC V FINALE

Dunedin Casino Poker Classic Chris Shum $ugar $hum $2000 holdem tournament

Tonight was the final qualifying round of the Dunedin Casino Poker Classic - Series V.  A shorter field but still 17 players here to maintain or improve their standings, as well as take advantage of the $2000 guarantee.

Top three this week were: Chris R, Chris S, and Michael with $1,000, $600 and $400 up for grabs.

Chris R went out in 3rd.  His all in was called by $ugar $hum.  Q9 vs A10. J 4 J 6 7 and nobody hit the board so Chris' A10 was good.

Michael and Chris then went head to head and within a few minutes Michael was all in with Chris calling.  K7 against QJ and the board came out: 8 10 2 A... and a friendly Queen on the river pushed the pot towards the monster stack, $ugar $hum.

So Chris takes out the final Classic qualifier and on about the 10th go we finally got a photo worthy of instagram, or at least for replacing an old profile pic:p

THE CLASSIC V FINALISTS

And so concludes the 5th season of the Dunedin Casino Classic.  By making the final table Michael G had enough points to take a seat in the final Saturday week.

The only other noteworthy ranking change tonight was Will taking 100 points for making the final table and finishing the season in first place narrowly overtaking Ryan by a slim margins, well done Will.

Tonight's tournament marks the end of the Season, leaving just the repechage this Saturday and the Grand Final Saturday Week.  The players qualifying for each are as follows:

Both tournaments will commence dealing to stacks, but any player failing to take their seat by the end of the first level, may be disqualified!  (Do yourself a favour and if you are going to be late, pick up the phone and let us know.  The Pit Boss's ddi is 4700913)

Otherwise, congratulations to everyone who made the Final, and all the best to those in the repechage this Saturday.

Big First for Charlotte.

Charlotte Poker Dunedin Casino poker deepstack
Charlotte with her winning hand.

For our $150 Deepstack tournament today we had 23 players and a prize pool of $4,495.  First place was just over $2,000.

Final four were Charlotte, Mark N, Dan H, and Gary.

Fourth went to Mark (he had lost a fair chunk of his stack to Gary two hands earlier).  Gary raised to 3BB, Mark pushed for just over double the bet, Gary called. Mark with QJ and Gary with A7. 5 5 4 6 K came out on the table.

Charlotte was down to a small stack until she managed to take a double up from each of the big stacks (almost back to back) she finally had some chips to play with.

All three players showed some great blind stealing and short handed plays.

Next out, in third, Daniel.  Dan pushed with J6 and got quickly called by Charlotte with A8s.  The flop came out 3 6 9 (all spades) Safe to say, she didn't get run down.

Final two: Gary and Charlotte.  After taking out Dan, Charlotte found herself as the big stack.  Heads-up didn't last too long before Gary went all in and got called by Charlotte.  74 against Q6, community cards came out; J 2 J 5 5.  Queen high played with the two pair on the board, and Charlotte took home the juicy first place!

Kev the Comeback Kid

Pretty good turnout for our penultimate Classic Qualifier tonight, with a total of 26 players.  In addition, there were 33 rebuys and 44 addons for a combined prize pool of $2200.  From tonight's contribution, the Classic pool is now sitting on $5,684, and in just one weeks time we'll know who exactly is going to get to play for it!

Tonight's top four were Danny W, Karl R, Kev F and Ryan H.

First out we have Ryan go all-in with the flop being 8-7-2.  Kev and Danny call.  Turn and river are 3 & 5 respectively.  Ryan shows A3, but no good for him, Kev flips over his 95 knocking out Ryan with a pair of 5's.

Danny goes all-in for 3½BB and is called by Karl.  Danny rolls over "The Mutt" K9 and Karl show K3. Flop is Q-8-7.  Few chances for Danny here.  Turn is a trey, giving Karl a pair of 3's.  River is a bricky 6, so Danny is out on 3rd.

Now we are left with Karl and Kev.  The chips are switching back and forwards every few hands.  Kev manages to get Karl down to 3BB and Karl goes all in blind.  Karl manages to win the hand and has a few more chips now.  Kev folds a few before he calls an all in.  Kev rolls over AT and Karl 97 suited.  Flop comes out Q-4-5, turn is an 8.  Karl looking for a 6,7,9 to win...  But unfortunately the river is an A, strengthening Kev's hand.  Kev busts out Karl with a pair of A's.  Well done Kev!

Also, earlier on the final table, Kev was down to less than 1 BB, somehow he managed to come back and win the whole thing! I guess miracles do happen...

Just a reminder that this Saturday, we have our $150 May Deepstack starting at 2pm, and instead of the Thursday Turbo tomorrow we're running a free to enter/$10 rebuy satellite where 1 in 6 will be guaranteed to win a seat.  Registration opens at 5:30pm and the Satellite starts at 7:30pm.  Click here for details.

Gary is big stack now Damien goes all in pre-flop and rolls over J4, Gary calls with AT. Flop delivers 4-9-4, giving Damien a major lead. Turn and river are K and 5. Damien takes most of Gary's chips, leaving him with around $12K.

Ben Busts out the Best

We had a great turn out for tonight's tourney with 50 points awarded for each K.O. 28 players in total, some new and some familiar faces.

A total prize pool of over $2200 meant that there were 5 prizes to give away with a guaranteed first prize of $1000.

The lucky 5 remaining players of the 28 were Charlotte, Damien, Adam, Ben and Mark. Damien had a double K.O. sending Michael home and Mark home in 5th possy.

4 remaining and its heads up between Charlotte and Damien. Charlotte's all in with A J v A 7. Flop is 10 9 9 turn 5 river J. Charlotte K.O's Damien and he finishes in 4th.

Charlotte's on a roll and goes all in again, with A J. Adam's counting his chips thinking about his move. Is his hand good enough? Does he have what it takes to call.........why not. He calls with K J.
Flop comes 7 7 7. Jeepers. I wonder if Ben folded a 7?? Anywho, turn is 6. Charlotte is feeling confident. BOOM out comes K on the river giving Adam Ks full and has Charlotte covered. Charlotte finishes 3rd.

Adam and Ben have made a deal and are now playing for the pic on the blog.

They are both all in. Adam has 8s 9d vs Ben's Jd 8c.

Flop is 4d 9c Kd, turn 8d, river 3d.
