Top Chris Playoff

Chris K with somebody Russian behind him.

Tonight we had 27 Entries and a Pot of $2,300.

Final table took a long time to start this week, yet a very short time to finish.

The top five this week were; Dan H, Martin, Chris R, Chris K and Chris S.

Chris K did an unconventional knockout against Martin. Chris and Martin had their cards up pre-flop, pocket 2's vs A3. Instead of the pocket 2's struggling to keep the lead, they managed to score a four card flush on the turn! 3 J T Q 3. Martin hit trips on the river just to rub it in.

Next up we had Chris K doing more hard work for the table, Dan called the push with a short stack. Chris with AQ, Dan with JT. We had K 5 Q J 4 as the community, Chris' Pair of Queens was good to take the pot.

At this stage we were down to three Chris' (bound for cannibalism). The first showdown between the Chris' happened when Chris S got his shove called by Chris K. Shum (possibly not after the call) had  5 against A8. The flop didn't look good for Chris... T A J, a 5 on the turn held hope, just a blank 9 on the river was not what Shum was searching for.

Heads up play was between Chris R and Chris K. Just like the whole of final table this week, heads up was a quick game. The two made a deal which secured 2nd place with a value both players would have been happy to have taken home. After a few blind shoves and yoyoing of chip stacks, we got down to the final hand;Chris R with 53 and Chris K with pocket 4's. Nobody hit on the flop, turn or river and 4's held up for Chris K. Board: Q T 8 6 9.

Thanks to everyone for the nice turnout, good banter and friendly atmosphere as usual.

Biggest Prizepool of the Year!

Tonight we has a total of 29 Players in our Weekly Wednesday 6-Max, the prizepool reached a juicy $2,822.

The lucky (and good) final five were: Chris R, Pete, Tumua, Will and Martin. Final table was a bit later this week due to the amount in chips in play.

Tumua took out 5th place and was sent home by Will, A7 vs T9 all-in pre. Just a pair of 6's on the table and the Ace high held up for Will.

Next out with 4th place was Pete. Despite being the nicest player on the table, he had been putting on the pressure for other players with some brave over bets for most of the tournament. Chris was the one to send him home, Chris with A3, Pete KQ, 2 9 6 4 7 on the board.

Last week's winner Will took home 3rd place. He was unlucky to run into Martin's bullets short handed. Martin had everyone's favorite hand AA, Will had A7. There were no flushes or 7's on the board for Will, 2 J 2 4 6.

Heads up was between Chris and Martin. Both players were happy with the remaining prizepool, they split it up and flipped blind for the change. After a couple of exchanges of chips, Martin won with an A6.

Well done to all those who cashed and thanks to everyone for a great turnout and exciting prizepool, a nice start to the year.

A Good Welcome Back for Will!

Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament Winner

The second weekly Wednesday for 2017 had a slower start but still had three tables running from pretty much the start.

The prize pool this evening was just over $1,800 and was divided among the final four players.

In the money tonight was Will S., Karl R., Greg S., and Chris K. It was good to see Chris and Will again, it had been a while since they last played.

Will had accumulated quite a stack during the tournament and used it to accumulate many more pots. Though he was also getting good cards as well, which helped.

Karl came in 4th this evening up against Will. Karl had J10 and Will K10, the board did nothing for either of them and Will's K held.

Greg, Will and Chris continued for a while, noone willing to risk their stack. Eventually Greg was all-in with A6 and Will was also in with Q10. A Q on the flop put Will in the lead and another Q on the river solidified it for him. And Greg unfortunately came in 3rd.

Chris and Will were to go head to head, and after a short while of heads up play, Chris was able to take some of Will's chips but it didn't seem to make much difference. After betting pretty steadily all the way, Will went all in on the river, and Chris called. The board was 8 6 9 10 10. Chris had another 10 to give him the set, but Will had the achieved a Club flush on the turn and had him beat. Well done!

Thank you everyone who came tonight, and join us next Wednesday for our next tournament. Also keep an eye out for the first Deepstack of 2017! Date to be confirmed.

Cheers.

Bumper start to the year!

Dunedin Casino Texas Hold'em Tournament

The first tournament for 2017 and it was a big one!

We had three table before the tournament commenced and it was full before the first break, which did mean that one keen player had to miss out. The prize pool though was over $2,300!

It did take a long time to reach the money, but eventually there could only be five left. With Chris S., Mok H., Chris R., David vdL. and Brendan N.

After lots of hands, a couple blind levels, and a few all in situations which saw Brendan lose most of his stack to Mok and then build it back up, we found our fifth place in David.

David went all-in with AJ, to which Brendan raised all-in with J10 and Mok called with Q8. The board came K564Q. It gave Mok a pair but Brendan a flush  which gave him a chance to increase his stack again.

Shortly after, Brendan lost most of his stack again to Chris S. this time, but this time he couldn't get it back. All-in against Mok who had A5. Brendan's Q7 couldn't hold up with the board giving Mok two-pair. So Brendan finished in fourth place.

The two Chris's went head to head for third. Chris S. was lead pre with AK and Chris R. KJ. Chris R. paired on the flop however, and held on to that lead until the end.

Heads up was Chris R. and Mok. After about 10 minutes of heads-up play Chris pushes all-in and Mok calls after a slight deliberation. Chris has J5 and Mok A4, the board of 6 8 3 7 10 did nothing for either of them so Mok's A held to take it out.

It took us a while to find our first winner for 2017 but congratulations to Mok! It was worth the wait.

We have lots of great tournaments planned for this coming year, so keep an eye out on the blog and on Facebook to stay up-to-date.

See you next week!
